ELISA kit ("sandwich" type) for the quantitative determination of luteinizing hormone in human serum.
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a glycoprotein with molecular weight ca. 30 000 Da consisting of two subunits, α and β. LH is secreted by the frontal lobe of pituitary gland and stimulates testosterone synthesis in testicles. Together with the other hormones, LH regulates menstrual cycle in females.
Increased LH levels are observed in patients with different forms of hypogonadism (primary ovarian or testicle insufficiency, polycystic ovary, menopause etc), renal insufficiency and cirrhosis. Decreased LH levels that can result in sterility in both sexes, are observed at dysfunctions of hypothalamus or frontal lobe of pituitary gland
LH measurement is useful for diagnosing menopause, exact ovulation time definition and for endocrine therapy monitoring.
