Tumor markers | ELISA kits

Astra Biotech provides four CE certificated ELISA kits for determination of tumor markers within human blood serum:

CA-125 (REF 30-01)

AFP (REF 22-02)

Gonadotropin hCG (REF 22-01)

Ferritin (REF 40-01)

Definition of tumor markers: Tumor markers are defined as biological molecules (proteins, peptides,…) indicating the existence of tumors inside the organism. Tumor markers are synthesized by tumor cells or by surrounding tissue or cells as response to the tumor.

Specificity of tumor markers: Some tumor markers can be typical for certain tumors. In comparison to their reference and/ or expected values the increase of the concentration of the tumor marker might be an indication of a tumor diseases. Cancer Antigen 125 (CA 125) can marker especially tumors of ovaries, pancreas and others. Alpha Fetoprotein (AFP) may signal hepatocellular carcinoma and germ cell tumors of the testicle and ovaries. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) might show germ cell tumors of the testicle and ovaries as well as trophoblastic tumors. Thyreoglobulin (TG) may also be linked to thyroid carcinoma. An increased ferritin concentration might show leukemia, breast cancer and other tumor diseases.

Application of ELISA tumor markers: ELISA test for determination and quantification of tumor markers are intended for monitoring and identification of recurrences and asymptomatic dissemination.
